Tom Cruise: The Fflint Connection In an episode of American TV show 'Inside the Actor's Studio', Hollywood film star Tom Cruise was shocked to discover that he had an ancestor who hailed from Fflint. Cruise (full name Thomas Cruise Mapother IV) was told that his great great grandfather, Dylan Henry Mapother, left Fflint in 1850 (age 16) and emigrated to Kentucky.
Of course, Fflint Central is delighted with the news, but perhaps less surprised than Mr Cruise to hear of his ancestral origins. Is it really a surprise to learn that those passionate film performances could be the result of Fflinty inheritance? Author Graham Greene referred to childhood as the bank balance of a writer's art. FfC would definitely agree that most of what defines the spirit and feel of its sound has more to do with those deeply buried childhood experiences than any obvious, more recent musical influences. Who can say whether the soul of the humble town of Fflint didn't subliminally enter the bloodstream of Thomas Cruise Mapother IV? iC
