Mail Update - No. 9, December 29th, 2002 |
|
Time for a few words at the terminus of another
year.
THE WEBSITE
The third Fflint Central Calendar
is now available and of course, it's completely free. Get it now -
you only have 12 months. The download is a bit smaller this year, so it
comes as a single file, not in two 6-month chunks. How much better
can it get?
mp3's AND ALL
THAT
Well, the decline of mp3.com
continues (see Update
No. 1). As of Jan 31st next year, only paying
'customers' (i.e. Artists who provide the darned CONTENT) will be allowed
more than 3 tracks to be listed on their page. Needless to say, we
won't be paying for the privilege, so we'll be thinking of another way for
folks to hear Fflint Central via the Net. Keep you posted on
that one. In the meantime, thanks to everyone out there who has
listened to FfC at mp3.com, especially those who have included tracks
on their Stations: much appreciated!
LORD (PENDRO) OF THE
DANCE
Maybe a surprise to some of
you (as it was to us), but a Belgian dance company has been using a track
by Pendro as part of the music soundtrack to their
production called 'Body/Work/Leisure'. The choreographer of
Charleroi/Danses,
Frederic Flamand, contacted us ages ago to ask permission to use Tim's
track 'Restless Crescent' from
'Infusorium', then we completely forgot about
it. We were reminded recently by Watch TV (a Belgian TV
news and documentary production company), who are preparing a documentary
about 'Body/Work/Leisure', a section of which will contain a bit of
'Restless Crescent'. Move over, Igor
Stravinsky!
EXPLODING
SOFAS
Aficionados of the
electronic/underground music scene in Manchester (UK) will doubtless be
aware of BURST
COUCH. These live events, organised by Dave Clarkson
(Planetsounds), Gareth Bibby (RSI Recordings) and Arlo Yates (Pigdog
recordings) started in February and have been gathering momentum all
year, with #5 taking place in November in the Green Room. Burst Couch gets
a namecheck here, not just because the events are
excellent, but because a couple of gigs have featured a 'turn' by
TRICLOPS, that 3-headed, 5-testicled electronic monster,
one third of which is Mr Tim 'Pendro' Jones. Look out for more
ruptured settees in 2003.
RELEASES
2002 was exciting for us
because we welcomed into the fold a new artist (see Update
No. 8), The Gideon Leeches. The debut
tracks were heard on the split release 'Unholy Trinity',
aided and abetted by noises from Berkowitz Lake &
Dahmer and Cousin
Silas.
In 2003, we can expect to
hear more from this Fflinty triumvirate. Cousin
Silas has a new concoction up his ragged sleeve to disturb and
delight and The Gideon Leeches will be following
'UT' with a much lengthier exploration of darkness.
Old timers BLD have just delivered a new album into the
clammy clutches of San Francisco's magnificent tUMULt label, slated for release
in 2003. Stay tuned for news of this 14-track, hour-long
extravaganza. Ooh, we're so excited about tUMULt!!!! Thanks
Andee and thanks to everyone else who has given us so much support
and encouragement this year.
HAPPY 2003
:-)
Barry &
Tim
