Mail Update - No.

Well, here at last is the Mail Update - sorry for the wait - if you've been waiting, that is. You may not have actually asked to be included on our Mailing List, but we thought you might want to be. If not, sorry: just tell us and we'll politely piss off. First of all, a big thanks to all of you who've taken the trouble to: a. Listen to the music It's great to hear comments, whether for good or ill about FfC releases, so keep 'em coming by e-mail or by using the Messageboard or Comments box on the Contact page. If you want to put a mini review together about an album or ep, or even a track, let us have it and we can include it in the new Reviews & Opinions pages. We'll add a hyperlink to your website, if you've got one. mp3.com, although now in the hands of Vivendi/Universal (!!), is still a good place to expose yourself, as it were. We'll keep putting FfC music up there for global consumption. You may have noticed that for a very brief period, there were direct links from FfCWeb to the individual tracks on mp3.com. Alas, we got rid of them because they now charge for this so-called 'deep linking'. Another sign of Universal's influence? It's still possible to link to the DAM CD pages without paying though (so far). This is the easiest way to get to hear the tracks. The new netCD idea is good, although without a broadband connection, a copy of Contraception of the Gods could take a while to download............also you don't get the nice sleeve to stare at whilst pummelling your head with BLD. It's cheaper though and even with a modem, you'll get the music faster than waiting for the postman to deliver it. On the whole, mp3.com ain't what it used to be. More and more services are only available to paying customers. Problem is, the customers in this case are the Artists, who provide the content of mp3.com. Sounds like the old problem of the middleman fleecing the artist as well as the listeners......... TART UP YER
MONITOR
If your computer
Desktop is looking a little drab, redecorate with the new Fflint
Central Wallpaper. It's based on
Berkowitz Lake & Dahmer's lovely sleeve art from
'Contraception of the Gods', i.e. the 'Red
House' image and comes in three very different screen resolutions (1024 x
768, 800 x 600 and 640 x 480). If anyone is wealthy enough to have
one of those bloody enormous monitors and you're insulted by 1024 x 768,
let us know. Have a butchers here (or look for the link on
the FfC Homepage). Aren't you tired of that Britney Spears / George Clooney wallpaper
anyway?
NEW RELEASES BLD: Missionary District (BLAS009) 20 minutes of music and the FfC Website all squeezed onto a credit-card sized rectangular CD. The tracks are in mp3 format, so the card can only be played on a computer. Beware if you have one of those slot-loading thingies........ Cyan Krilp Vipers It's only available from Aquarius Records in San Francisco, but they deliver all over the world, so that's not a problem. AQ are doing such a fantastic job of spreading the Fflint Central virus, BLD came up with this recording as a big 'Ta very much'. Cavendish Sanguine: Vitriol Crusts (BLAS010) Halzaphron Pendro: Peninsula (BLAS011) Flip
And speaking of Pendro: some of you Manchester people may have witnessed the coruscating live performance from Mr Jones in Manchester recently at Rotations#4. The event was hosted by RSI Recordings (Gareth Bibby, aka Disco Operating System) and was an excellent cornucopia of electronic delights. The track Masonic Incinerator was taken from this performance. The next release from Fflint Central will be from a brand new artist known as Cousin Silas. This ensemble operates from a bunker in the Colne Valley, Yorkshire and will not disappoint fans of FfC. Keep checking www.fflintcentral.co.uk for details. After all, you can't rely on this Newsletter being up to date, can you? Messrs Berkowitz Lake & Dahmer have not been idle over the Summer months. They have dropped a few incendiaries onto other labels recently and have told us that they may be launching another assault on FfC before long. LIVE STUFF Already mentioned Pendro, but don't miss out on the Melt Banana gig at the Star & Garter, Manchester on October 7th. Here you can witness the third performance of TRICLOPS, featuring not only the considerable talents of Gareth (RSI) Bibby and Dave (Planetsounds) Clarkson, but our very own Tim and his live analog/digital battery. Unmissable, surely, especially as the rather wonderful Magic City (aka Richard Carman), will be bringing his massive aural assault from the Midlands. BUYING FFLINT CENTRAL No, we haven't been acquired by Universal -- we told 'em where to stick their offer. If you check out the Outlets page, you'll see that you can now order our wonderful releases direct from FfC, using your Plastic. This is all thanks to the PayPal system, which is easy to use (hopefully) and totally secure. Only downside is that you'll have to register with them before you place your first order, unless you're already a PayPal'er of course. It's an American system, so the prices are in US Dollars. To keep things simple and because we haven't sussed out how to do complicated shipping charges, the prices include P&P. Oh, so tempting! And don't forget the lovely T-shirt and mousemat on the Stuff page. De rigueur. THE WEBSITE Don't want to go on about the Reviews & Opinions pages, so errm. Oh, don't miss the interview at Modern Dance. It's very informative and has some gorgeous pictures :-] We'll give it a permanent home in the Scrapbook soon. There's also going to be a bit of background in said book about the 'Red House' featured on the sleeve of Contraception of the Gods. Oooooh! Less said about BLD's Blog page the better. So that's it for now - not too interesting? If you've had enough, let us know (sob!). Less likely, tell us if you know of any more wretches who might want to be added to the list. Barry & Tim |
